Colgate Honored at Syracuse Crunch Game
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (12/3/11) – The Colgate women's hockey team
was recognized on at the Syracuse Crunch game on Saturday night for
its Autism Awareness Project that was launched last season.
"It was a great honor to be recognized by the Syracuse Crunch
tonight," stated head coach Scott Wiley. "We created this project
because we wanted to make not only our campus, but the broader
community, more aware of what autism is, how it affects people and
how we can all make a difference for those affected by autism. We
hope to continue to raise awareness and support the great work of
Autism Speaks U."
The Raiders launched their Autism Awareness Project in January 2011
and have raised about $18,000 towards autism awareness. The project
included Lighting Up Starr Rink Blue in Colgate's ECAC Hockey game
against Rensselaer on Jan. 28, special puzzle-piece jerseys that
were worn during two games and were auctioned-off online, and a
player puzzle-piece fundraiser.
Colgate established an Autism Speaks U chapter to support the work
of Autism Speaks, North America's largest autism science and
advocacy organization. Autism Speaks U engages college students
across the country in autism awareness, advocacy and fundraising
efforts.
The team was honored during the second intermission of the Syracuse
Crunch game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the War
Memorial Arena in Syracuse, N.Y. The Crunch won the game 5-2.
