NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior goalie Genny Ladiges finished
with 46 saves, one shy of her season high, but No. 10
Dartmouth’s 52 shots on goal were enough to give the Big
Green a 6-0 win Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. Ladiges has now
made 40 or more saves five times in the last seven games, and seven
times overall this year. Defenseman Sasha Nanji had a four-point
day for the Big Green (two goals, two assists).
While the end result was the same -- a loss -- on Saturday
afternoon the Bulldogs got off to a much better start than they did
Friday night against No. 9 Harvard. It took Yale 10 minutes to get
its first shot on goal against the Crimson, but on Saturday the
Bulldogs’ first shot came within the first 20 seconds and
there were several quality chances for the Blue early on.
By the end of the first period the Bulldogs had more shots on goal
(10) than they had all game Friday (nine). But Dartmouth took full
advantage of its first good chance, as forward Kelly Foley knocked
in a goal at the 1:43 mark.
The Bulldogs settled down after that, killing off a pair of
penalties that included one right after junior defenseman Jamie
Gray and sophomore forward Jackie Raines nearly connected for a
goal, with Raines winding up called for goaltender interference
after she collided with Dartmouth’s Lindsay Holdcroft.
Holdcroft was shaken up on that play but remained in the game and
made one of her best saves of the day two minutes later, when
senior forward Lauren Davis set up sophomore forward Paige Decker
for a backhander right in front. A minute later, freshman forward
Stephanie Mock sent a rebound try just wide. A pair of great saves
by Ladiges in the final two minutes kept Dartmouth’s lead at
one heading into the first intermission.
Yale had a brief 5-on-3 early in the second, but a slap shot by
senior forward Aleca Hughes went wide. Dartmouth wound up getting a
short-handed chance for Nanji that was denied by Ladiges. The Big
Green would tack on goals by defenseman Moira Scanlon and Foley,
who scored with only .5 seconds on the clock in the second to get
Dartmouth’s lead to 3-0.
A video review confirmed Dartmouth’s fourth goal of the game,
as Nanji’s wrister hit inside the goal before bouncing out at
12:27 of the third. A short-handed goal by forward Reagan Fischer
with 4:51 to play made it 5-0, and Nanji added one with 30.9
seconds left for the 6-0 final.
The Bulldogs finished a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, and
have now killed off nine straight successfully.
Yale travels to Clarkson and St. Lawrence next weekend.
