PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Taking on its second ranked opponent in
as many nights, the Brown (7-9-7, 4-8-4 ECAC Hockey) women's hockey
team could not get past Harvard (14-6-1, 11-4-1 ECAC Hockey) and
their red-hot goaltender, Laura Bellamy. Bellamy made 18 saves in
the contest to pick up her third-straight shutout while the Crimson
offense took care of the rest as the Bears fell, 3-0.
Harvard totaled three-straight period of double-digit shots, but
sophomore goaltender Aubree Moore (Bowie, Md.) made 33 saves on the
night.
Despite the strong play of Moore, it was all about Bellamy as she
extended her streak of scoreless periods to 11.
In a fast-paced start to the game, it was the Crimson who was able
to strike first as Kalley Armstrong set up Kaitlin Spurling with
the perfect feed at 11:19 for a 1-0 Harvard lead.
Just 50 seconds later it was another superb pass to set up a
Crimson goal, this time from Elizabeth Parker to Sarah Edney as
Harvard extended its lead to two.
Brown benefited from the first penalty of the game as an
interference call on the Crimson put the Bears on the power play.
Bruno got a few good looks, but Harvard's Bellamy was able to
deflect Brown's best offerings.
The Crimson found their third goal at 8:10 in the second as they
were able to screen Moore and then deflect a puck which found its
way past the goal line for a 3-0 Harvard lead.
Harvard out-shot the Bears 11-2 in the third period, but Moore and
the Brown defense would not allow the Crimson to increase their
lead. Unfortunately, the Bears could not find a way to get one past
the goal line either.
The Bears return to action next weekend with a tough road trip to
Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
