EW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 9 Harvard started quickly and never
let up against the Yale women’s ice hockey team Friday night
at Ingalls Rink, scoring twice in the first five minutes and going
on to an 8-0 win.
Freshman goalie Jaimie Leonoff got the start for the Bulldogs, and
a pair of turnovers left her little chance to stop Harvard’s
first two goals. Forward Jillian Dempsey scored the first, at 3:40,
and 46 seconds later forward Kaitlin Spurling added the second.
The Bulldogs successfully killed off their only penalty of the
first, and shortly after that kill they got their first shot on
goal. But Harvard goalie Laura Bellamy closed up the five hole on
sophomore forward Jackie Raines, who tried to bury a nice feed from
freshman forward Stephanie Mock.
Right after that Leonoff had her best save of the night, gloving a
shot from right in front by forward Hillary Crowe. But Spurling
extended the Crimson lead to 3-0 at the 14:12 mark.
After goals by forward Gina McDonald and forward Samantha Reber,
senior Genny Ladiges came on in relief of Leonoff (20 saves).
Ladiges made 18 saves, allowing third-period goals by forward
Kailey Armstrong, forward Hillary Crowe and forward Elizabeth
Parker.
Yale hosts No. 10 Dartmouth Saturday at 4 p.m.
