Dartmouth Too Much for Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team began a
stretch of eight games to end the season in which they will play
seven teams that are either nationally ranked or receiving votes in
the latest polls on Friday night, with a matchup against No. 10
Dartmouth at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears scored the first goal of
the game jus 2:48 into the contest, but the Big Green responded
with two goals in the same stanza, and then added an empty-netter
with just over a minute left in regulation to take home the
victory, 3-1.
The Bears went toe-to-toe with the No. 10 team in the country and
led early, but two unassisted goals gave Dartmouth control of the
game. Brown enjoyed a strong second half to the second period, and
even better third, but the Big Green would not relent the
equalizer.
Brown scored just 2:48 in to the game as junior Alena Polenska
(Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) took the assist from senior co-captain
Katelyn Landry (Belmont, Mass.) for a 1-0 Brown lead.
The Big Green responded just under five minutes later however, as
defender Sasha Nanji tallied her first unassisted goal of the
contest to tie the game. Dartmouth's blue-liner did it again just
four minutes later when she scored unassisted for the second time
and gave the Big Green a 2-1 lead.
The Bears were out-shot 12-5 in the second period, but junior
goaltender Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) made all 12 stops to
keep Brown in the game. Jamieson finished with 30 saves.
Bruno began the third on the power play and went tally 11 shots to
Dartmouth's nine in the first period, but the Bears could not find
a way to get one past the Big Green's Lindsay Holdcroft.
Brown was forced to pull the goalie with under two minutes left to
try and find the equalizer, but it was Dartmouth who would lock
down a goal as Erica Dobos tallied an empty-netter at 1:05.
Brown continues its five-game stretch against teams at least
receiving votes in the poll tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. against
Harvard.
