Clarkson Returns to ECAC Hockey Play with Win at Yale
Sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) ran her point-scoring
streak to six straight games with a career-high four points on two
goals and two assists to power the Clarkson University
Women’s Hockey team past Yale 5-2 at Ingalls Rink in New
Haven, CT on Friday night.
The Golden Knights, who returned to ECAC Hockey action for the
first time in over a month, improved their record to 13-6-4 overall
and moved up in the league standings with a 7-3-1 conference mark.
The Green and Gold, who stand in a tie for fourth place, have won
their last fourth ECAC Hockey games, outscoring their league
opponents 22-4. Clarkson battles Brown in Providence, RI on
Saturday afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. faceoff.
In a wide open first period, which saw Clarkson (16) and Yale (12)
combine for 28 shots, both teams got on the scoreboard early. The
Knights grabbed the initial lead when Mercer started the scoring
with her seventh power-play marker of the season, connecting off
assists from defensemen, junior Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) and
senior Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore, SASK) at 5:43. Just 51 seconds
later, however the Bulldogs would tie the game on Danielle
Moncion’s goal.
Clarkson took control in the middle frame, outshooting Yale 15-4
while building their lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes. Senior Juana
Baribeau (Amos, QUE) netted her ninth goal of the season and 55th
career goal at 9:31 with Mercer and sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray
(Kanat, ONT) assisting.
Junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) scored the eventual
game-winner, tallying on the man-advantage at 15:47, matching her
with Mercer for a team-high seven power-play goals. Wood and
Mercer, with her team-high 16th assist, set up Skirrow’s 10th
goal of the season.
Mercer, who has 11 points (4-7) over the last six games, picked up
her 10th goal of the season off an assist by Baribeau to give the
Knights’ a 4-1 lead just 95 seconds into the third
period.
Yale (1-16, 1-9), cut the deficit to two goals on Lynn
Kennedy’s goal at 15:16, but Clarkson would add another goal
late in regulation to seal the Bulldogs’ ninth consecutive
loss.
Rattray, back in the Knights’ lineup after a strong
performance for Canada’s U-22 Team at the Meco Cup, scored
her team-high 12th goal of the season with just three seconds
remaining on the clock. Seniors Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK) and
Ptolemy assisted on the power-play marker.
Clarkson outshot Yale 45-28, including a 29-16 marging over the
last two periods. Sophomore
Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 26 saves in the road win.

Yale man-advantage opportunities.
