NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Charline Labonte, who has won a pair of gold
medals playing for Canada in the Olympics, made 19 saves for the
shutout as McGill beat Yale 4-0 Saturday afternoon in an exhibition
game at Ingalls Rink. Forward Melodie Daoust had a hat trick to
lead the Martlets.
Junior Erin Callahan got the start in goal for Yale, her first
action of the 2011-12 season. She stopped nine of 11 shots in one
period of actionm then gave way to senior Genny Ladiges for the
second period. Ladiges stopped 21 of the 23 shots she
saw.
Daoust scored a pair of goals, including one on the power play, to
give the Martlets a 2-0 lead in the first period. She then
completed the hat trick when she was left all alone low in the
right circle and wristed one past Ladiges at the 7:38 mark of the
second. Forward Ann-Sophie Bettez' goal at 7:19 of the third
extended the lead to 4-0.
The game was a mini-reunion for the Murray family, as Yale freshman
defenseman Madi Murray squared off against her older sister Logan,
a sophomore forward who was part of the Martlet's Canadian National
Championship run last year.
Yale has 13 games left, all ECAC Hockey games. The Bulldogs host
Clarkson and St. Lawrence next weekend.
