HAMDEN, Conn. –The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team battled No. 8/10 nationally ranked Harvard to a 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon at the HighPoint Solutions Arena, located on the York Hill Campus of QU. With the result, the Bobcats moved to 13-8-2 overall and 9-3-2 in ECAC competition. The Crimson are now 9-5-1 and 6-3-1 in the league.
 
Sophomore forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) led the Bobcats’ offensive charge, assisting on the game’s first goal and tallying a short-handed score in the second period for her team-high 12th goal of the season. The Bobcats also received goals from sophomore forward Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) and senior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario), while junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) turned away 26 shots in net.
 
Quinnipiac notched the first goal of the game at the 3:48 mark into the first period of play on sophomore forward Erica Uden Johansson’s (Sundsvall, Sweden) third goal of the year. The forward received a pass from fellow sophomore forward Megan Hagg (Ajax, Ontario) who dished the puck from goal-line extended towards the front of the net where Uden Johansson remained unmarked and slapped in the puck by junior goaltender Laura Bellamy. Hagg earned her first assist of the year on the goal, while Babstock was also credited her 14th assist of the year.
 
Harvard evened the score at one apiece just 47 seconds into the second period, on sophomore Kaitlin Spurling’s fourth score on the year. The Bobcats regained the lead less than four minutes later on Wheeler’s score, as the senior’s slap shot snuck by the near post for her third goal of the season. Senior forward Chelsea Illchuk’s (Lockport, Manitoba) efforts behind the net led to the goal, as her assist to Wheeler was her third on the season.
 
Babstock extended Quinnipiac’s lead to 3-1 at the 15:14 mark into the second stanza on a tremendous individual effort, short-handed tally. The sophomore poked the puck away from a Harvard forward and raced in towards the goal on a break-away, where she beat Bellamy, who helplessly fell back into the net unable to control the shot.
 
Harvard made it a one-goal game on sophomore forward Lindsey Fry’s goal at the 3:41 mark into the third period, before tying the score at three apiece on sophomore defender Marissa Gedman’s power-play goal at the 9:43 mark of the third and final frame.
 
Neither side could find the game-winner in overtime, as Quinnipiac dominated the extra frame with a 6-to-2 shot advantage. Overall, Quinnipiac owned a 35-to-29 shot advantage in the contest.
 
Each team was whistled for six penalties in the contest, while Harvard went 1-for-3 on its power-play opportunities and Quinnipiac went 0-for-3 on its extra skater chances.
 
Quinnipiac returns to the ice next weekend when it travels to face Cornell on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m., followed by an afternoon contest against Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m.
