Quinnipiac Edged by Dartmouth
HAMDEN, Conn. - Senior Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) and
sophomore Amanda Colin (Burnsville, Minn.) each registered a goal
on Friday evening, but the Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey
team dropped a 3-2 decision to Dartmouth College at the High Point
Solutions Arena. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 13-8-1 overall
and 9-3-1 in ECAC competition, while the Big Green improve to 8-5-1
overall and 5-3-1 in the league.
Dartmouth grabbed two early goals (just 1:04 minutes of action into
the first period) from junior Camille Dumais and senior Erica Dobos
to take the 2-0 lead. The Bobcats then regained their composure and
held the Big Green scoreless through the next 40 minutes of
action.
Quinnipiac notched its first goal of the evening on a power-play
score from Wheeler at the 12:53 mark into the second period to make
the score, 2-1. The senior collected a rebound following a shot
from junior Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba), as sophomore
goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft was unable to control the laser from
the point. Wheeler then tapped in her second goal of the year,
while Boulton earned her sixth assist and sophomore Erica Uden
Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) was credited with her second helper
of the year.
Dartmouth replied with its third goal of the contest at the 1:57
mark into the third period of play on a power-play goal from senior
Jenna Hobeika, making the score, 3-1. The Bobcats closed the gap to
3-2 with just over three minutes remaining in the third frame on
Colin’s fifth goal of the year, but were unable to find the
equalizer before the game’s final whistle.
Despite the slow start, the Bobcats owned a substantial shot
advantage in the final two periods of action, 24-to-14. Overall,
Dartmouth outshot Quinnipiac 29-to-27. Junior goaltender Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) turned away a game-high 26 shots,
while her counterpart Holdcroft made 25 saves for the Big
Green.
Each team was successful on one power-play opportunity on the
evening, as Quinnipiac went 1-for-2, while Dartmouth went
1-for-3.
Quinnipiac returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts No.
8/10 Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. at High Point Solutions
Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
