Big Green Edge Conference-Leading Bobcats
HAMDEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team used two
goals in the first period to build an early lead and edged
conference-leading Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Friday at High Point
Solutions Arena. The win marked the third straight for the Big
Green and the fifth in the last six games. It improved the team to
8-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Bobcats fell to 13-8-1
overall and 9-3-1 in the conference.
The scoring came early for the Big Green with two goals in the
first two minutes of the contest. Junior Camille Dumais
(Beaconsfield, Quebec) netted her sixth goal of the season 37
second after the opening faceoff. Just 27 seconds later, senior
Erica Dobos (Bethel Park, Pa.) gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead on her
third score of the season.
Quinnipiac couldn't find any offense in the opening stanza, only
taking three shots compared to 15 for the Big Green. The Bobcats
tried to shake off the rust of not having played since Dec. 10 with
14 shots in the second period. Quinnipiac finally got one past
sophomore goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) on the
power play 13 minutes into the second. Senior Kate Wheeler scored
her second goal of the season off of assists from junior Regan
Boulton and sophomore Erica Uden Johansson.
It was the Dartmouth offense that stalled in the period with the
Big Green taking only five shots. The team got back on track early
in the third in what ended up being the game-winning goal. After
junior Brittany Lyons committed a tripping penalty 1:32 into the
third, senior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) tallied the power-play
goal 25 seconds later. It marked Hobeika's fifth goal of the
season. Junior Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ontario) and junior Margaux
Sharp (Carleton Place, Ontario) recorded assists on the play.
The Bobcats had one last gasp in them late in the game, cutting the
lead to one, on the fifth goal of the season by sophomore Amanda
Colin with 3:06 left in the third. Despite taking one more shot
than the Big Green in the final frame, Quinnipiac couldn't find the
tying goal.
For the game, each team went 1-for-3 on the power play. Dartmouth
finished with 29 shots compared to 27 for the Bobcats. Holdcroft
finished with 25 saves for her sixth win of the season. Junior
Victoria Vigilanti made 26 saves in the loss.
The Big Green looks to continue their three-game winning streak
when they play at Princeton on Saturday at 4 p.m.
