HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate scored three goals in the third period,
including two from Melissa Kueber, and the Raiders held off the
Rensselaer women's hockey team, 3-2, in an ECAC Hockey contest at
Starr Rink. With the victory Colgate is now 10-18-1 overall and
5-12-1 in the league. The Engineers, who got both goals in the
third period from Taylor Horton, fall to 8-18-4 and 5-11-2 and sit
in a tie for eighth place in the standings.
Following two scoreless periods, the two teams combined for three
goals in just 1:28 early in the final period. The Raiders' Rachel
Walsh scored at 2:10, but RPI countered on Horton's first of the
game and sixth of the year only 48 seconds later. She was assisted
by Taylor Mahoney and Alissa Harrison. Colgate needed just 40
seconds to pull ahead again, this time on Kueber's 11th goal of the
season.
It was Kueber's 12th of the year that proved to be the game-winner
as she scored a power play goal at 14:53. Horton made it a one-goal
game with an extra-attacker goal at 19:19, but RPI could not even
the score.
Kimberly Sass made 19 saves in the victory and Kelly O'Brien
stopped 15 shots in defeat.
