Bobcats Drop League Contest to No.10 Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was
defeated by ECAC Hockey opponent No. 10/10 Dartmouth, 4-1, on
Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena. With the loss, Quinnipiac
falls to 10-6-2 in ECAC Hockey action (15-12-2 overall), while
Dartmouth improves to 11-5-2 in league play and 15-7-2 overall.
Junior defender Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba) potted
Quinnipiac's goal midway through the third period of action, but a
career game from sophomore goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft
(career-high 43 saves) kept the Bobcats at bay for most of the
contest.
Dartmouth found the back of the net first, netting an early goal at
the 2:48 mark into the opening period on senior forward Kelly
Foley's 15th score of the season. The Big Green staged a
counterattack as Foley and junior forward Camille Dumais skated in
with a two-on-one advantage. Dumais held the puck until the
defender committed, where she then laid off a pass to Foley who
finished the opportunity.
Quinnipiac responded with multiple scoring chances of its own, as
sophomore forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) and
freshman forward Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) each nearly
tied the score in the following minutes on solo opportunities, but
sophomore goalie Lindsay Holdcroft denied both Bobcats of a
goal.
The Big Green capitalized on its second power-play of the period,
extending its lead to 2-0 on junior defender Margaux Sharp's
backdoor tap-in at the 9:29 mark into the first stanza. On the
score, junior defender Sasha Nanji slid a cross-crease pass to the
open Sharp, earning her 11th helper of the year on the score. The
goal for Sharp was her season's third, while freshman forward
Karlee Odland was also awarded an assist, her second of the
season.
Dartmouth added its third goal of the contest on its second
power-play score of the afternoon, as senior forward Reagan Fischer
sniped in her 10th tally of the season. Dumais and Foley were each
credited with an assist on the score, as Fischer found herself with
open shooting space in front before she fired in the shot over the
left shoulder of freshman goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville,
Minn.).
Following the goal, Laden was replaced by junior goaltender
Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario), who would play for the
remainder of the contest for Quinnipiac. Laden made six saves
during her time in net, while Vigilanti turned away 12 shots.
The Bobcats found their offense in the third period on a power-play
goal at the 8:17 mark, as junior defender Regan Boulton's (Brandon,
Manitoba) slap-shot closed the gap to 3-1. Boulton received a pass
after Kosta worked hard to collect her own rebound, where she
knocked the puck up ice to the waiting Boulton. Kosta was credited
with her 16th assist of the year on the score.
Quinnipiac picked up the intensity following the goal, applying
increased pressure on the Big Green defensively. Following the
goal, Dartmouth proceeded to commit three straight penalties in the
next four minutes of action, at one point giving Quinnipiac a
5-on-3 power-play advantage, but the Bobcats were unable to
capitalize.
Dartmouth's Foley netted her second goal of the game contest at the
18:39 mark on an empty net score, giving the game its final score,
4-1. Foley intercepted the puck in Dartmouth's defensive zone and
tossed the puck into the net from center ice.
Overall, Quinnipiac owned a substantial shot advantage, 44-to-22.
The Bobcats were 1-for-8 on their power-play opportunities, while
Dartmouth went 2-for-5 on its extra skater chances.
Quinnipiac looks to bounce back when it returns home next weekend
to HighPoint Solutions Arena to host ECAC Hockey opponents St.
Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday,
Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
