Holdcroft Sets Career High in Win Against Bobcats
HANOVER, N.H. — Sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh,
Pa.) set a new career high in saves with 43 in a 4-1 home victory
over Quinnipiac on Saturday. The win moved the Big Green to 15-7-2
overall and 11-5-2 in ECAC Hockey. The Bobcats fell to 15-12-2
overall and 10-6-2 in the conference.
The two teams entered the night tied for fourth in the conference,
but the play of Holdcroft allowed Dartmouth to create some
seperation. Quinnipiac fired 44 shots at the sophomore goaltender
and Holdcroft stopped all but one, including double-digit saves in
each period. The previous high in saves for the Pittsburgh native
was 38 in a 3-2 victory at St. Lawrence last season (Feb. 11,
2011).
The Dartmouth offense got going early, scoring on its first shot.
After the Bobcats had controlled play through most of the first two
minutes, a turnover by Quinnipiac gave the Big Green a two-on-one
rush. Junior Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Quebec) came down the
right side with the puck and waited until the last second before
passing across the ice to senior Kelly Foley (South Boston, Mass.).
Foley quickly redirected the pass toward the net and it beat
freshman goaltender Chelsea Laden, 2:48 into the opening
stanza.
The Big Green added their second goal seven minutes later, this
time on the power play. Freshman Karlee Odland (Vauxhall, Alberta)
controlled the puck in the right faceoff circle and passed it back
to junior Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ontaro) at the blue line. Nanji
quickly made a crossing pass to junior Margaux Sharp (Carleton
Place, Ontario) who fired a shot from the backside to give the team
a 2-0 lead. It was Sharp's third goal of the season.
The score remained at 2-0 heading into the first intermission and
the Dartmouth added the only goal in the second. Once again on the
power play, the Big Green pushed the lead to 3-0 with 8:39 left in
the second. On the goal, Dumais dumped the puck behind the net to
Foley. Foley collected it and passed back toward the center of the
ice to a cutting Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alberta). Fischer took a
shot that sailed over the shoulder of Laden for her 10th goal of
the season. Following the score, senior Victoria Vigilanti replaced
Laden in net for the Bobcats.
In the third period, Quinnipiac finally got on the board on a
power-play goal by Regan Boulton. The Bobcats had more chances in
the third, including a five-on-three, but Holdcroft and the
Dartmouth defense met the challenge head on. To go along with
Holdcroft's 43 saves, the Big Green blocked 15 shots with Fischer
leading the way with three.
After Quinnipiac pulled Vigilanti for an extra skater with 1:40
left in the game, Foley added an empty-net goal for her second of
the game and her 16th of the season to give Dartmouth a 4-1 win.
The Big Green went 2-for-5 on the power play, while holding the
Bobcats to 1-for-8 on the power play. Laden took the loss making
six saves, while giving up three goals. Vigilanti had 12 saves
without giving up a score.
Dartmouth goes out on its final regular season road trip of the
season next weekend when it plays at Union on Friday at 7 p.m. and
at Rensselaer on Saturday at 4 p.m.
