Weber Stops Career-High 44 Shots in Tie with Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (12/31/11) - Sophomore Sally Butler scored the
game-tying goal and senior Rachel Weber made a career-high 44 saves
as the Princeton (6-9-3) women's hockey team recorded it's second
tie against Ohio State (9-7-4), earning a 1-1 draw on Saturday,
Dec. 31 at the OSU Ice Rink. The teams tied 2-2 in the first game
on Friday.
Paige Semenza put the Buckeyes up 1-0 with an unassisted goal at
11:21 of the first period. Semenza intercepted the puck in the
neutral zone and shot it from the slot.
Butler would knot the game with her team-leading ninth goal of the
season, knocking in her own rebound midway through the second with
with help from sophomore Denna Laing.
The Tigers were able to withstand 2+ minutes down a skater after
picking up two penalties in the overtime session. Senior goalie
Rachel Weber made four saves, while Lisa Steffes stopped one on the
other end for the Buckeyes.
Weber finished the game with 44 saves, three better than her
previous best of 41. Steffes made 22 stops for Ohio State.
Ohio State outshot Princeton 45-23.
Princeton would win the shooutout friendly 2-0. Paula Romanchuk was
up first and missed her shot, but on the other end Danielle Gagne
missed for Ohio State. Kelly Cooke nailed her shot and Weber
stopped Taylor Kuehl. Danielle DiCesare sealed the victory
converting her shot on the Tigers' next attempt.
Princeton returns home to host Harvard on Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.,
and Dartmouth on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. Following the Dartmouth
game Princeton will hold its second of three Skate with the Tigers
events.
