Dartmouth Earns First Victory of Season
CANTON, N.Y. -- In its third game of the season, the 10th-ranked
Dartmouth women's hockey team earned its first win of the
season, 1-0, at St. Lawrence, off a goal by senior Reagan
Fischer and a shutout by goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft. The
win improved the Big Green to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in ECAC
Hockey. The Saints fell to 3-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the
conference.
Fischer's goal came in the second period on one of Dartmouth's
five power plays. Junior Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ontario) fired
a shot toward St. Lawrence goaltender Carmen MacDonald from
the blue line that was partially blocked, but the puck
bounced right to Fischer in the slot. She then quickly snapped
a low shot that caught MacDonald out of position for her first
goal of the year and gave the Big Green the critical one-goal
lead at 16:12. Fischer almost scored twice more in the
second with two shots hitting pipes.
Dartmouth continued to work the puck in the St. Lawrence zone and
held an 8-6 edge in shots throughout the final frame. The
Saints worked in the final minute to get MacDonald off the ice
in favor of an extra skater, but the Big Green continued to
shut down their efforts. Though the home team would eventually get
the 6-on-5 advantage, the timing was too late and the clock
ran out on a 1-0 Dartmouth win.
Each team had their chances in the contest with the Saints taking
24 shots and Dartmouth firing 29. Holdcroft was up for the
challenge making 24 saves, including 12 in the second stanza.
It marked her fifth shutout of her career and the first of the
season. It also improved this season's goals against average to
1.95 and her save percentage to .935.
The Big Green finished with a 1-for-5 mark on the power play while
the Saints closed at 0-for-6 which included a pair of 5-on-3
tries.
Dartmouth next has its home opener on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2
p.m.
