ITHACA, N.Y. – Six different players scored goals as No. 3
Cornell beat Yale 9-0 Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Bulldogs got
a combined 56 saves from senior goalie Genny Ladiges and freshman
goalie Jaimie Leonoff.
Cornell (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey), which was coming off a 6-2 win
over Colgate on Tuesday, outshot Yale 26-6 while taking a 4-0 lead
in the first period. Forward Rebecca Johnston, a member of the
Canadian Olympic team, had a power play goal and a short-handed
goal in a span of less than seven minutes. Forwards Monika Leck and
Brianne Jenner also scored.
Ladiges made 22 saves in the first before giving way to Leonoff,
who stopped 34 the rest of the way. The Big Red scored four more
goals in the second period, including a power-play goal by forward
Catherine White. White scored again in the third for the 9-0
final.
Amanda Mazzotta made 16 saves for the shutout. Senior forward Aleca
Hughes had five shots for Yale (0-3-0, 0-1-0 ECAC Hockey), which
visits Colgate Saturday afternoon.
