Wildcats Rally for Win Over Tigers
DURHAM, N.H. (11/26/11) - Nicole Gifford had a hat trick to lead
New Hampshire to a 3-1 win over the Princeton women's hockey team
on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Whittemore Center.
The Tigers had a 1-0 lead erased when Gifford scored late in the
first and added two more in the second.
Sophomore Sally Butler gave Princeton the lead at 7:40 of the first
frame.
Gifford tied the game just before the first intermission with a
power-play goal at 17:29. The decisive goal would come at 9:06 of
the second, also on the power play. Gifford's hat trick would be
recorded at 11:55 of the same period.
New Hampshire had a slim 26-25 edge in shots, taking 11-6 leads in
the first two periods. Princeton dominated the third period taking
13 shots but goalie Jenn Gilligan held up strong stopping all 13
shots, while her offense mustered just four shots.
Princeton senior goalie Rachel Weber would take a seat with 1:57
left to play and when Gifford received a slashing penalty,
Princeton had 45 seconds of a 6x4 but couldn't find a seam.
Princeton was 0 for 9 on the power play and 4 for 6 on the penalty
kill.
Weber made 23 saves in the loss with Gilligan stopping 24.
Princeton looks to get back on track next weekend, Dec. 2-3 with a
trip to Yale and Brown. The Tigers defeated both teams earlier in
the season by a combined 8-1 score.
