CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. -- The first period of the first game of
the regular season
went almost perfectly for the 10th-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey
team on Sunday
at fifth-ranked Boston College with the Big Green scoring three
goals. Unfortunately,
the Eagles came all the way back to tie the game with just over
four minutes to
go in the second period, and then scored with two seconds remaining
in the third
to win the contest, 4-3. The loss dropped Dartmouth to 0-1, while
Boston College
improved to 4-1-1.
In the final seconds of the game with the teams tied at three, the
Eagles' Emily
Field cleaned up a rebound and beat sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft
(Pittsburgh, Pa.)
for the game-winning goal. It capped a comeback by Boston College
from a 3-0 deficit.
Junior Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Quebec) gave the Big Green a
1-0 lead off
an assist from senior Kelly Foley (South Boston, Mass.) six minutes
into the first
period. Foley followed that up with her first goal of the season
two minutes later
off assists from senior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alberta) and junior
Margaux Sharp
(Carleton Place, Ontario).
Dartmouth stretched the lead to 3-0 on Foley's second goal of the
night, her third
point, with a little over five minutes left in the first off an
assist from Dumais.
Boston College started its comeback at the tail end of the first on
a power play
goal by Taylor Wasylk. In the second, Alex Carpenter netted two
goals to tie the
score at three, which led to the dramatic finish.
Holdcroft took the loss for the Big Green, making 31 saves. Boston
College took
35 shots on goal compared to just 19 for Dartmouth. The Big Green
went 1-for-4
on the power play, while the Eagles went 1-for-2.
Dartmouth begins ECAC Hockey play when it travels to Clarkson and
St. Lawrence
next weekend. The Big Green plays at Clarkson on Friday, Oct. 28,
at 7 p.m. and
at St. Lawrence on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m.
