Princeton Edged by Niagara
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/22/11) - The Princeton women's hockey team
outshot Niagara 28-19, including a 12-2 edge in the third, but
couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit falling 3-1 at Baker Rink on
Saturday, Oct. 22.
After recording three assists in a 5-3 win over Northeastern last
night, sophomore Denna Laing scored her first goal of the season at
9:20 of the first period when she tapped in a shot by freshman
defender Ali Pankowski. Sophomore Sally Butler earned the second
assist on the goal.
Niagara would score three goals in the second frame, with Daniela
Dal Colle scoring twice. Princeton penalty trouble gave Niagara
some momentum, helping the Purple Eagles take the lead.
Kaleigh Chippy evened the game at 9:59 when she lifted the puck
over the shoulder of Rachel Webber on a pass from Kayla
Raniwsky.
The Purple Eagles took the lead on a power-play goal at 12:53 when
Dal Colle scored with help from Chippy and Jocey Kleiber. Dal Colle
had help again from Chippy at 17:28 just one second after a
Princeton player was released from a hooking penalty.
The Tigers would throw everything they had at goalie Abby
Ryplanski, with a 12-2 edge in shots in the third. Webber was
pulled for the extra attacker for the final 3:06 but Princeton
couldn't get another goal.
Webber finished the game with 16 saves while Ryplanski made 27
stops.
Princeton, now 1-1 on the season, will open ECAC Hockey play next
weekend, Oct. 28-29 when it travels to Union and Rensselaer.
