HANOVER, N.H. — For the second consecutive night, the
Dartmouth women's hockey team failed to score, and this time lost
to Clarkson at Thompson Arena on Saturday, 1-0. The loss dropped
the Big Green to 3-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Golden
Knights improved to 8-4-4 and 4-3-1 in the conference.
Unlike Friday's contest against St. Lawrence, the Golden Knights
struck in the first period and then hung on for the victory. Just
under 15 minutes into the first period, Clarkson sophomore Carly
Mercer had the puck in the middle of the ice on the Dartmouth blue
line. She passed to junior Hailey Wood who was two strides inside
the blue line on the right side.
Wood fired a shot toward the net, and junior Danielle Skirrow,
standing right in front of the crease, deflected the puck over the
right shoulder of sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for
the game-winning goal. The Golden Knights used the power play to
score the goal and went 1-for-3 in the game. It was the sixth goal
of the season for Skirrow, the ninth assist for Mercer and the
ninth assist for Wood.
Despite trailing, 1-0, the Big Green kept attacking, but couldn't
find the tying goal. Dartmouth took 12 shots in the first period,
eight in the second and six in the third. Every shot the Big Green
took Clarkson sophomore Erica Howe was there to make the stop. The
goaltender made 26 saves for her third shutout of the season.
Holdcroft made 26 saves in the loss. It marked the second
consecutive game that Holdcroft allowed only one goal, but suffered
a loss.
The Golden Knights committed six penalties in the contest for 12
minutes and the Big Green had three penalties for six minutes.
Dartmouth was 0-for-6 on the power play. Senior Kelly Foley (South
Boston, Mass) and junior Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ontario) led the
team with five shots each.
The Big Green has a quick turn around as it travels to rival
Harvard on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
