Clarkson Gains Shutout on the Road Over Dartmouth
With 26 saves sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) backstopped the
Clarkson University Hockey team to its third shutout over the past
four games with Saturday’s 1-0 ECAC Hockey victory over
Dartmouth at Thompson Arena in Hanover, NH.
The Golden Knights improved their record to 8-3-4 overall and to
4-2-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Knights have allowed just three goals
over the past five, including two in Friday’s 2-1 loss at
10th-ranked Harvard. Clarkson is now off until December 2-3 when it
hosts Rensselaer and Union in the final home games at Cheel Arena
in 2011.
Junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) scored the only goal of the
contest when she connected on the power play at 14:41 of the first
period. Skirrow picked up her sixth goal of the season when she
deflected a shot by junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge,
ALB). Sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) also assisted.
Clarkson outshot the Big Green (3-4-1, 3-2-1) 27-26. Howe posted
her fourth shutout of the season and sixth career whitewash with 12
first-period saves, eight second-period stops and six more over the
final 20 minutes.
The Knights were 1-of-3 on the power play and killed off all six
Dartmouth man-advantages.
Clarkson, which also tied Dartmouth 2-2 in Potsdam on October 28,
took three of four points from the Big Green this season.
