Jamieson Posts First Shutout of Season for Brown
Orono, Maine – The Battle of the Bears, game number two,
ended in a tie on Saturday afternoon as both Brown junior Katie
Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario) and Maine goalie Kylie Smith were able
to stop every shot in the game in a 0-0 overtime tie. The Bears
(2-2-5) and Black Bears (7-5-4) battled to two ties on the weekend
after a 4-4 overtime tie on Friday night.
Maine was able to hold an edge in shots through the first period of
play by a total of 14 to eight But both goalies remained resilient
in making sure that their team did not fall behind.
Brown took the edge in the shot total in the second period by a
margin of nine to four. Maine's Smith came up big in the second and
managed to save a Brown breakaway attempt by blocking the puck with
the tip of her skate as she deflected it wide.
The third period began with the same momentum that the second
period had with both teams trying to secure a goal to get the edge;
however, goaltending was key. Maine edged Brown in shots on net
during the period by a total of eight to four, but defense was king
as neither goalie would blink.
In the five extra minutes of play, Maine sent five shots at
Jamieson while Brown aimed two on net, but the end of 65 minutes of
play, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Jamieson finished with a game-high 31 saves, while her counterpart
stopped 23.
Brown will be back in action for a post-Thanksgiving Day, Mayor's
Cup matchup at Providence College on Friday, November 25th at 7
p.m.
