Union Downed by No. 4 BU
BOSTON, MA -- Kayla Tutino scored a hat trick to lead #4 Boston
University to a 6-2 victory over Union College at Walter Brown
Arena Saturday. The Terriers improved to 4-1 while the Dutchwomen
fell to 1-4 after this non-league contest.
The Terriers scored twice in each period and had a 44-29 shot
advantage, while scoring twice in six power play opportunties.
Jenn Wakefield opened the scoring at 3:12 of the first with assist
to Janelle Kohanchuk and Kaleigh Fratkin on the power play. The
Dutchwomen evened it up at 1-1 on Kurio's third of the season,
assisted by Lauren Hoffman with 6:33 left. But the Terriers
regained the lead with just eight seconds left in the stanza, as
Tutino notched her first of the night with assists to Jill Cardella
and Kathryn Miller.
Kasey Boucher made it a 3-1 lead at 3:55 of the second, with
helpers from Louise Warren and Sarah Bayersdorfer. Valente scored
on a Union power play with her second of the year at 11:04. Molly
Kate Devin and Jeannie Sabourin assisted and it was a 3-2 game. But
Wakefield converted on the power play with her second of the night
and seventh of the season at 12:45 with assists from Fratkin and
Kohanchuk.
Tutino added the fifth and sixth goals for the Terriers in the
first five minutes of the third. She scored at 2:17 from Cardella
and then Shannon Mahoney and Kohanchuk assisted on the hat trick
score at 4:43.
Shenae Lundberg made 30 saves in 44:43 of action, and Alana
Marcinko stopped eight in 15 minutes and 17 seconds of the third
for Union. Braly Hiller made 27 saves for the Terriers.
Union plays at Syracuse next Friday and Saturday.
