Northeastern Skates Past Quinnipiac
BOSTON, Mass. – Despite a goal from sophomore forward
Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario), the Quinnipiac women's ice
hockey team was defeated by Northeastern, 3-1, on Saturday
afternoon at Matthews Arena. Quinnipiac falls to 1-4 on the season,
while Northeastern improves to a perfect 4-0 on the year.
Babstock netted the Bobcats' goal at the 15:30 mark into the second
period, giving Quinnipiac the 1-0 advantage at the time. On the
play, the sophomore was assisted by fellow Mississauga native,
freshman forward Nicole Kosta, who earned her third helper of the
season.
Northeastern responded by scoring three straight goals, including
two tallies in the final two minutes of the second stanza. Freshman
Kendall Coyne and junior Rachel Llanes each netted goals for the
Huskies, while junior Kelly Wallace added Northeastern's third goal
of the game at the 6:00 mark into the third and final frame.
Making her first-career collegiate start in net, freshman
goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minn.) made 32 saves for the
Bobcats. Following the Huskies third goal, junior goaltender
Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) replaced Laden for the
remainder of the game, making six saves in the final 14 minutes of
play. Northeastern netminder Florence Schelling made 30 saves
between the pipes for the Huskies.
Northeastern was whistled for three penalties in the game, while
Quinnipiac committed only two penalties. Each team went scoreless
on its power-play opportunities. Overall, the Huskies outshout the
Bobcats, 41-to-31.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Oct. 21 when they travel to
face Boston College at 2 p.m.
