Engineers Skate To Draw at Brown
TROY, N.Y. – Rookie netminder Kelly O’Brien stopped
20 of the 22 shots
she faced, including 11 in the second period, as the Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s hockey team skated to a
2-2 draw
at Brown University in ECAC Hockey action at Meehan
Auditorium. The
Engineers are now 2-7-4 and 0-3-2 in conference play, while the
Bears
are 1-2-3 and 0-2-3 in ECAC Hockey.
After a scoreless first period, the homestanding Bears grabbed
the
game’s first lead as Skyelar Siwak sent it past the reach of
O’Brien
(Sussex, WI/Madison Capitols) at 10:33 off a feed from Katelyn
Landry.
The Engineers answered quickly as sophomore Toni Sanders (York, PA
/
Susquehanna Rapids U-19) hammered home a pass from junior
Taylor
Horton (St. Thomas, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) less than 25
seconds
later. Rookie Eleeza Cox (St. Catharines, ON/Ridley College)
earned
the second assist on the goal at 11:18.
Rensselaer then made it a 2-1 advantage at the 12:08 mark on the
power
play after Horton got one past Bears goalie Aubree Moore from a
shot
at the point by sophomore Madison Marzario (Prior Lake,
MN/Shattuck-St. Mary’s).
Despite holding the lead, the Engineers could not hold off the
home
team as Brown came back to tie it at 2-all at the 6:00 mark of
the
final period. It was Sarah Robson who fired in a shot –
unassisted –
past O’Brien.
The two teams skated through the overtime session, which saw
RPI
unable to capitalize on its four shot attempts.
Moore stopped 34 shots for the Bears in the draw, including 10 in
the
first period and 13 in the third.
Rensselaer heads to Yale for a 4pm match on Saturday against
the
Bulldogs. The Bears will host Union on Saturday, also at
4pm.
