Late Goal Propels Brown to Tie with Rensselaer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown scored the first and last goals
of the game on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium against ECAC
Hockey foe Rensselaer, on their way to a 2-2 tie. At the 12-minute
mark in the third period, rookie forward Sarah Robson (Mississauga,
Ontario) made a highlight reel goal to push the Bears into a 2-2
tie.
It was a slow paced first period but the scoring picked up quickly
in the second period as three goals were scored in just over a
minute and a half.
Brown struck first as the Bears controlled the puck deep in the
RPI zone. Senior co-captain Katelyn Landry (Belmont, Mass.) was
able to put a shot on net, and classmate Skyelar Siwak (Olds,
Alberta) quickly took the rebound and put it past the Engineer
goalie for a 1-0 Bruno lead.
The lead would not last however as RPI scored just 48 seconds
later when Toni Sanders was able to put one in the back of the
net.
Just 50 seconds later a power play opportunity for the Engineers
led to a 2-1 lead for RPI as Taylor Horton took the feed from
Madison Marzario and put RPI up 1-0.
Brown would make the most of the third period, when Robson took
control of the puck near the boards in the RPI zone. The rookie
then showed sheer determination, fighting her way through the
defense and past the goalie to tie the game at two.
Sophomore goalie Aubree Moore (Bowie, Md.) was solid between the
pipes again for Brown, making 34 saves.
