Vigilanti Posts NCAA-Leading Sixth Shutout for Bobcats
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's ice hockey junior goaltender
Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) recorded her sixth shutout
of the season, the most in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey to
date, as the women's ice hockey team defeated Princeton, 3-0, in an
ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank
Sports Center. With the win, first-place Quinnipiac improves to
12-7-1 overall and 9-2-1 in ECAC Hockey play. Princeton drops to
6-9-1 overall and 5-6-1 in league action.
A night after Vigilanti blanked Princeton, 1-0, with 26 saves, the
third-year goalie stopped all 21 shots she saw on the afternoon to
complete the weekend sweep against the Tigers. Junior defender
Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba), junior forward Brittany Lyons
(Canton, Mass.) and junior forward Breann Frykas (East St. Paul,
Minn.) also scored for the Bobcats while senior forward Kate
Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) had two assists.
Boulton's goal was her fourth of the year, with assists going to
sophomore forward Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) 5:24
into the second period. The senior defenseman scored the first of
Quinnipiac's two power play goals in the win. Just over three
minutes later, it was Lyons with her fifth goal of the year at the
8:55 mark as Wheeler and senior forward Chelsea Illchuk (Lockport,
Manitoba) assisted on the goal.
In the third, Frykas found the back of the net for the sixth time
this season also on the power play, with assists going to Wheeler
and Bobcats' scoring leader, sophomore forward Kelly Babstock
(Mississauga, Ontario) setting up the play. Boulton and Frykas'
goals both came on the power play as the Bobcats were 2-for-3 with
a player advantage.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Jan. 6 when it hosts
Dartmouth in an ECAC Hockey match-up at 7 p.m. before then hosting
Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena
at the TD Bank Sports Center.
