Clarkson Remains Hot, Tops Niagara
Three different Golden Knights scored goals and sophomore Erica
Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 20 saves as the Clarkson University
Women’s Hockey team won its fourth straight game with a 3-1
victory at Niagara University on Saturday night.
Clarkson, which has won seven of its last eight games, improves its
record to 11-4-4. The Knights close out the 2011 portion of the
schedule with Sunday’s 2:00 p.m. contest against Niagara at
Dwyer Arena.
With Saturday’s game tied 1-1 after 40 minutes, the Knights
gained the road win with a pair of power-play goals in the final
period.
Junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) scored her eighth goal of
the season for the game-winner while on the man-advantage at 5:23
of the third, finishing off assists from senior Juana Baribeau
(Amos, QUE) and junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB).
Sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) sealed the win with a
power-play marker at 11:11 with classmate Jamie Lee Rattray
(Kanata, ONT) setting up the goal.
Clarkson took a 1-0 first-period lead at 14:34 as Baribeau tallied
off assists from freshman defenseman Jennifer Shields (Ingersoll,
ONT) and Mercer for her seventh goal of the season and 53rd career
score.
The Purple Eagles (7-8-5) tied the game with a power-play marker
from Jessica Hitchcock at 15:21 of the middle stanza.
The Knights outshot Niagara 27-21. Clarkson was 2-of-4 on the power
play and killed off five of the Purple Eagles’ six
man-advantage chances.
