Quinnipiac and Brown Skate to Tie
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team
skated to a 2-2 tie against ECAC Hockey opponent Brown on Saturday
afternoon at High Point Solutions Arena. The draw brings
Quinnipiac's ECAC Hockey record to 3-0-1 (4-5-1 overall), while
Brown's ECAC Hockey record now stands at 0-2-2 (1-2-2 overall).
Sophomore forwards Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) and Shelby
Wignall (Hamilton, Ontario) each netted goals for the Bobcats,
while freshmen Shannon Flatley and Brittany Moorehead each scored
for the Bears.
Junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 11
stops in net for Quinnipiac, while her counterpart junior Katie
Jamieson, who was under fire all afternoon, made a game-high 48
saves between the pipes for Brown.
After a scoreless first period, the Bears were the first to strike
in the second period of play, as Flatley notched her first career
goal at the 9:25 mark into the frame. Quinnipiac responded with
Babstock's team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 16:41 mark
into the second stanza. Following a faceoff in Brown's defensive
zone, senior Melissa Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) dumped the puck in
towards the net where Wignall snatched the puck and proceeded to
find the free skater. Babstock then drifted towards the side of the
crease before flipping in the puck past Jamieson.
Brown took the 2-1 lead in the third period of play off a score
from Moorehead at the 8:57 mark into the period. Quinnipiac once
again responded with a goal just under two minutes later at the
10:56 mark on Wignall's first goal of the season. Junior defender
Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba) unloaded a shot from the point
towards the net where Wignall cleverly redirected the puck over
Jamieson's shoulder for the score.
Neither side was able to find the game-winner in overtime, as
Quinnipiac held a 4-to-0 shot advantage in the extra frame.
Overall, the Bobcats held an overwhelming shot advantage in the
contest, 50-to-13. Each team went scoreless on its power-play
opportunities, as Quinnipiac went 0-for-3 and Brown 0-for-2.
