Tigers Take Down Yale
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/5/11) - Five players had three-point games
as the Princeton women's hockey team posted a 7-1 win over Yale on
Saturday, Nov. 5 at Baker Rink. The Tigers sweep the weekend, after
a 1-0 win over Brown yesterday.
Sophomore Denna Laing had two goals and an assist, and finished
with a +5 on-ice rating. Linemates Olivia Mucha and Sally Butler
had a goal and two assists apiece. Also scoring once and earning
two assists was senior Paula Romanchuk and freshman Ali
Pankowski.
The Tigers had a 1-0 lead at the first intermission. Butler dumped
the puck in behind the net and Mucha poked it free and into the
slot for Laing who fired a shot into the back of the net.
Mucha and Laing both scored on rebounds to give Princeton a 3-0 a
little more than five minutes into the second period. Romanchuk
scored her first goal of the season three minutes later.
Later in the period, there was a stoppage as the officials reviewed
a Yale goal. It was called a no-goal because it was kicked in by a
Yale skater.
Princeton would score four more goals in the third. Junior Alex
Kinney got her first goal of the season when she buried a Romanchuk
pass to the right of Yale's replacement goalie Jaimie Leonoff.
Leonoff came in on relief of Genny Ladiges who made 24 saves and
allowed four.
Yale would end Princeton's chances of a shutout with a power-play
goal from Stephanie Mock at 7:51.
Freshman Ali Pankowski recorded her first goal of the season, an
unassisted goal when she one-timed a shot off a face off in the
right circle at 10:42. Butler would finish the scoring at
13:05.
Princeton outshot Yale 40-28, as senior netminder Rachel Weber made
27 stops in goal for the Tigers. Leonoff would make nine saves and
five up three goals in the third period.
The Tigers improve to 4-1-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the ECAC.
Yale falls to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Princeton makes the long trip up to the North Country next weekend,
Nov. 11 & 12 to take on St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
