Bears Battle Quinnipiac to Tie
Hamden, Conn. – Brown (1-2-2, 0-2-2 ECAC Hockey) made the
most of their offensive chances on Saturday afternoon, getting
goals from rookies Shannon Flately (Toronto, Ontario) and Brittany
Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.), while junior goaltender Katie Jamieson
(Waterloo, Ontario) stood on her head, making 48 saves to help the
Bears to a 2-2 tie against Quinnipiac (4-5-1, 3-0-1) at High Point
Solutions Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Bears were the first to strike
in the second period as Flatley notched her first career goal at
the 9:25 mark. Sophomores Jennifer Nedow (Brockville, Ontario) and
Vanessa Welten (Crysler, Ontario) combined to set up Flatley for
the score.
The lead would last just over six minutes as reigning ECAC Hockey
Player and Rookie of the Year Kelly Babstock tallied her fifth goal
of the season.
Brown retook the lead in the third period of play off a score from
Moorehead, 8:57 into the period. It was Moorehead’s first
goal of the season. Rookie Sarah Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) was
credited with the assist, her first point of the year.
Once again, the Bobcats were able to tie it up at 10:56 in the
third on a goal from Shelby Wignall.
Despite facing a 50-13 shot deficit, the Bears defense was able to
hold through the remainder of the third period and into overtime as
Brown picked up its second ECAC point of the season.
Bruno returns to Meehan Auditorium next weekend when they host RPI
on Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., before taking on Union on Saturday,
Nov. 12, at 4 p.m.
