Tigers Shutout Brown to Earn Weekend Sweep
PROVIDENCE (12/3/11) - The Princeton women's hockey team won its
second straight game, earning a 3-0 shutout at Brown on Saturday,
Dec. 3 at Meehan Auditorium to wrap up the weekend with a
sweep.
Freshman Brianne Mahoney scored the game-winning goal with
sophomore Sally Butler and junior Alex Kinney also scoring for the
Tigers.
It didn't take long for Princeton to get on the scoreboard as
Mahoney lit the lamp 2:40 into the game. Senior Kelly Cooke and
sophomore Denna Laing assisted on what would be the game-winning
goal.
Butler added to the team's lead at 15:34 of the first with a
power-play goal, with seven seconds left on the tripping infraction
with help from senior Heather Landry and freshman Ali
Pankowski.
Kinney sealed the win for the Tigers, going top shelf on Brown
netminder Katie Jamieson. Senior Charissa Stadnyk and Cooke earned
the assists.
Senior Rachel Weber made 22 saves in goal for the Tigers, while
Jamieson made 21 saves for Brown, as Princeton outshot Brown
24-22.
Princeton was 1 for 2 on the power play and 3 for 3 on the penalty
kill.
The Tigers improve to 6-7-1 overall, 5-4-1 in ECAC while Brown
falls to 3-5-5 and 1-4-3 in ECAC.
Princeton will play a home-and-home with travel partner Quinnipiac
next weekend. The Tigers host the Bobcats on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7
p.m.
