Rensselaer Falls at Clarkson
POTSDAM, N.Y. - Clarkson scored five goals in the opening stanza
and held Rensselaer off the scoreboard for the remainder of the
game as the Golden Knights skated to a 10-0 victory over the
Engineers in ECAC Hockey action on Friday at Cheel Arena. The
victory moves the Knights to 9-4-4 and 5-3-1 in conference play,
while RPI is now 4-11-4 and 1-4-2 in the league.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a commanding five-score advantage
in the opening stanza as senior Juana Baribeau (Amos, PQ/Lafleche
College) got things going at the 9:03 mark. Sophomore Jamie
Lee Rattray (Kanata, ON/Ottawa Senators AA) made it a 3-0 game
mid-way through the frame as she scored back-to-back goals at 13:31
and 15:29.
Sophomore Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, PQ/Dawson Blues) and senior
Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore, SK/Swift Current Diamond Energy) wrapped
up the scoring in the frame to give the Knights the 5-0 goal
advantage heading into the second period.
In the middle stanza, Clarkson continued to capitalize junior
Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ON/Durham Junior Lightning) scored at
8:13 to make it a 6-0 contest. Rattray then gave the home
team a seven-goal advantage as she completed her first career hat
trick at 19:03 past rookie goalie Kelly O'Brien (Sussex, WI/Madison
Capitols).
The third period saw the Golden Knights add three more tallies,
including a power play marker at 4:06 by rookie Christine Lambert
(Thetford Mines, PQ/Ontario Hockey A Mavericks).
Clarkson proved dominant in shots for the game, holding the
Engineers to just 11 shots over 60 minutes, while firing 37 of
their own at the RPI net. Sophomore netminder Erica Howe
(Kanata, ON/Ottawa Senators AA) - who was recently named the ECAC
Hockey Goaltender of the Month for November - played 44:06 between
the pipes with six saves before giving way to rookie Emily Horn
(Hamilton, ON/Brampton Jr Thunder). She had five saves.
The Engineers, who fell victim to a large number of penalties and
turnovers throughout the game, saw O'Brien finish with 21 saves
over 40:38 played. Rookie Brianna Piper (Oakville, ON/Toronto
Jr. Aeros), who came in during the first and third periods, stopped
six shots.
Rensselaer returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Canton
for a 4pm game against St. Lawrence. The Golden Knights host
Union on Saturday, also at 4pm.
