Weekly Release: Quinnipiac Posts Series Sweep
ALBANY, N.Y. - Quinnipiac skated to a 3-1 victory over Niagara
to complete the two-game weekend series sweep at Dwyer Arena.
Freshmen forwards Kelly Babstock and Erica Uden Johansson factored
in all three Quinnipiac goals, each registering a goal and two
assists Saturday. The win improves Quinnipiac's record to
2-0-0 while Niagara falls to 0-2-0 on the season. The Bobcats
took game one of the series versus the Purple Eagles by blanking
them by a count of 3-0 Friday evening. Junior forward Kate
Wheeler's two second period goals were all that the Bobcats
needed. Sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti was stellar
in net, as she turned away 20 shots for the Bobcats. Her
counterpart, senior goaltender Jenni Bauer made 24 saves on the
evening.
In a clash of two of the nation’s top-10
teams, Clarkson dropped two games to Minnesota last weekend at
Cheel Arena by a count of 5-0, Friday and 3-0, Saturday.
Senior Lauren Dahm posted a career-high 46 saves to give Clarkson a
chance against the Golden Gophers Saturday afternoon, but the
Golden Knights ’ offensive woes continued. On Saturday
Clarkson went 0-of-6 on the man advantage and killed off seven of
nine Minnesota power-plays. The Gophers out shot the Green
and Gold 49-18, including a 35-10 margin over the final 40
minutes. On Friday Minnesota finished the game with a 37-23
lead in shots, scoring once on the power-play in seven chances. The
Golden Knights went 0-for-8 in an extra skater.
Rensselaer dropped a two-game set at Wisconsin
last weekend. In the season opener for both teams Friday, the
Badgers jumped out to an early five-goal lead and went on to claim
a 7-0 victory over the Rensselaer in front of 1,972
fans. Behind a five-point effort from junior Hilary
Knight, the Badgers defeated the Engineers, 6-0, Saturday at the
Kohl Center. The fifth-ranked Badgers improved to 2-0 in the
win, while the Engineers dropped to 0-2 on the young season.
Union dropped the puck on the 2010-2011 season
for the first of six straight non-conference home games by falling
to Hockey East foe Northeastern by a count of 3-2 in overtime
Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Huskies got the
win after a scrum in front of the Union net resulted in
Northeastern's Brittany Esposito flipping the puck over Union
goaltender Katie Gallagher. The Dutchwomen struck first in
the first period at 6:35 as Callee Heywood pushed the puck past
Huskie goaltender Floren Schelling with assists by Emma Rambo and
Rhianne Kurio. Galllagher started in goal for the Dutchwomen
and made 34 saves. Northeastern led in shots in the game
37-25.
