Derraugh Named League’s Coach of the Year

ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey today announced Cornell University Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach Doug Derraugh has been named the league’s 2010-11 ECAC Hockey Women's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year.

A finalist for the award last season, Derraugh guided Cornell to its second consecutive ECAC Hockey regular-season title this season with a 20-1-1 record. Derraugh's club has broken the school season win total again this season, entering post-season play with 26 overall victories.

The Big Red have been a top-10 team in the national polls throughout the season either ranked first or second each week. The top spot ranking was their first-ever No. 1 ranking in the program’s history.

Under Derraugh, the 2010-11 Cornell Big Red led ECAC Hockey in scoring offense (4.50 G/GM), scoring defense (0.91 G/GM), power-play success rate (26.8%), and penalty-kill (94.8%). Derraugh has turned around the Big Red program and made it one of the nation’s elite over the last few seasons. The Cornell graduate has taken a program that won just four games in the season prior to his arrival and brought it to the national title game in his fifth season (2009-2010), completely turning around the culture of the women's hockey program at Cornell.

The finalists for the award were Mark Hudak, Dartmouth and Rick Seeley, Quinnipiac.
