Cornell and Dartmouth to Meet in NCAA Tournament
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Cornell and Dartmouth, which battled Saturday
for the League championship title, shall meet again in the
postseason as the Big Red and Big Green were selected Sunday to the
2011 NCAA Women's Hockey Championship. The two teams will square
off at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lynah Rink with a berth in the 2011 NCAA
Frozen Four on the line.
Cornell (30-2-1) earned the second seed in the national
tournament. Dartmouth (22-11) earned an at-large bid into the
field. The NCAA tournament matchup will be the fourth meeting this
season between the two rivals. The Big Red have claimed two of
the three games, including a 3-0 victory Saturday in the ECAC
Hockey championship.
Cornell will be making its second appearance in the NCAA tournament, following up on last season's run that culminated in advancing to the national title game, falling in triple overtime to Minnesota-Duluth. Last season, Cornell defeated Harvard in Cambridge, Mass., in the NCAA first round before beating Mercyhurst in the national semifinals in Minneapolis, Minn.
It will be the seventh time the Big Green have made the NCAA tournament and the third time in the past five seasons. Dartmouth last made the tournament in 2009 when it lost at Wisconsin, 7-0, in the first round.
