National Polls Feature Two League Teams
ALBANY, NY – Two of the top women’s teams in ECAC Hockey are once again highlighted in the latest national USCHO.com poll, released Monday, February 21 and the most recent USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, released Tuesday, February, 22. Cornell remains in the No. 2/2 slot, while Dartmouth climbs to the No. 9/9 position in each poll.
After a .500 weekend (1-1), once again Cornell sits in the No. 2/2 position with 171 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey poll and 132 points in the USCHO.com poll. The Big Red suffered their first loss since November when they were bettered by nationally-ranked Dartmouth, 4-2 Friday. Cornell would rebound the following afternoon as it edged Harvard, 4-3 on the road. Cornell closed out the regular-season with a 20-1-1 league record capturing its second straight ECAC Hockey title. With the number one seed in the ECAC Women’s Hockey postseason tournament, Cornell will face visiting Rensselaer at Lynah Rink in a best-of-three-game set beginning Friday (2/25).
Posting two league wins last weekend Dartmouth has now won 10 of its last 11 games entering the postseason. Dartmouth’s biggest win of the season came last Friday as it stunned No. 2/2 Cornell, handing the Big Red its first and only loss of the regular-season, 4-2. Dartmouth finished the regular-season by stopping Colgate, 4-3 Saturday afternoon. The Big Green now sits in the No. 9 slot in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and USCHO.com poll earning 32 points in both polls. Dartmouth, the No. 3 seed in the ECAC Hockey postseason tournament, will host Clarkson in a best-of-three series beginning Friday (2/25).
Harvard was the only other ECAC Hockey team to receive votes in national polls this week.
