Two Ranked League Teams Sit in National Polls
ALBANY, NY – Once again Cornell finds itself ranked No. 2 in both national polls released Monday, January 17 and Tuesday, January 18, along with Quinnipiac cracking into both polls in the No. 10 position.
Cornell has now won 17-of-18 overall games this season, including a 6-1 win over Rensselaer Friday and a 4-2 victory at Messa Rink Saturday afternoon over Union. The Big Red has now won 13 straight roads. Opponents have found it difficult to find the back of the net against the Big Red who has only surrendered 15 goals in 18 games. Netminder Amanda Mazzotta leads the nation with a .953 win percentage among her counterparts.
Cornell closes out its five-game road trip on Tuesday, heading to Erie, Pa., for a matchup of top-five teams. The Big Red will face Mercyhurst, ranked fifth in the country in last week's national polls, in a 7 p.m. contest at the Mercyhurst Ice Center, in a rematch of a classic matchup earlier this season that saw the Lakers claim a 4-3 overtime win over Cornell, the only loss of the season for the Big Red.
For the second time in program history, Quinnipiac has cracked the top-10 in this week's January 17, 2011 USCHO.com Division I Women's Ice Hockey Poll. The No.10 Bobcats have now received votes in the USCHO.com poll for six consecutive weeks, dating back to November 29, 2010. Overall, Quinnipiac has received votes in 12 of the 15 weekly polls during the 2010-11 season. The Bobcats are also ranked No. 10 in this week’s USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s Poll.
