Weekly Polls: Cornell and Harvard Ranked Among Nation's Elite

ALBANY, NY – For the fifth consecutive week Cornell and Harvard have earned the respect of the poll voters, as they are once again acknowledged in the national polls released Monday, October 25 and Tuesday, October 26. 

Cornell, winners of its weekend opening series versus Robert Morris by scores of 3-2 and 9-1 last weekend at Lynah rink, maintained the No. 2 ranking in the USCHO.com poll earning 139 points, including seven first-place votes.  The Big Red dropped from the top spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, falling to the No. 2 position earning 175 points with eight first-place votes.  Cornell opens league action this weekend at Quinnipiac Friday and Princeton Saturday. 

Harvard was selected in the No. 9 position in both national polls, maintaining its spot in the USCHO.com poll earning 28 points and moving up from the No. 10 position with 30 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.  The Crimson skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with visiting McGill in an exhibition contest on Oct. 23.  Harvard will open the 2010-11 season hosting Yale and Brown.    

Posting one of the nation’s best winning percentages (.786), Quinnipiac also received votes in both national polls this week.

The USCHO.com Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including 12 coaches of Division I programs and three women's hockey writers.  USCHO.com provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and others.

The 14th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the four NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
