Engineers Fall to No. 2 Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell scored four goals in the span of 5:50 in
the first period and eased to a 6-0 victory in a women's hockey
game on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. With the win,
the Big Red improves to 22-1 overall and 16-0 in ECAC Hockey play.
The Engineers are now 9-12-6 and 7-8-1 in the conference.
Catherine White and Karlee Overguard added goals, while Lauriane
Rougeau, Jessica Campbell and Chelsea Karpenko had a pair of
assists each. White, Hayley Cudmore and Laura Fortino each had one
assist for the Big Red. Lauren Slebodnick stopped nine shots for
her fifth shutout of the season. Cornell went 1-for-5 on the power
play while killing off all three Rensselaer power plays.

Bliek stopped 30 shots in the contest for the
Engineers.
Jenner got the Big Red on the board first at the 6:04 mark of the
first period, being sprung on a short-handed breakaway by Rougeau
and firing a wrist shot over the shoulder of van der Bliek. Three
and a half minutes later, it was White being released on a
two-on-one from a outlet by Cudmore and beati ng the senior
netminder from Rensselaer for the 2-0 lead.
Jenner added her second of the night at the 10:52 mark of the
period, with Campbell and Fortino adding assists, and Hughes
capping the run with her first of the night, finishing off a 3-on-2
break as Karpenko worked the puck toward the middle for White, who
laid it off to Hughes, who finished easily past a sprawling van der
Bliek.
Cornell capped the period by killing off a full minute's worth of
a 5-on-3 power play for Rensselaer following penalties to Jenner
and Alyssa Gagliardi, with Slebodnick stopping both of the shots
she faced on the power play. Cornell then took the 4-0 lead into
the third period, where Overguard added a power-play tally, tipping
home a shot from the center point by Rougeau. Hughes then finished
off the scoring at the 17:46 mark of the period, batting home a
shot after a wraparound chance by Karpenko.
