Raiders Fall to Princeton in Conference Opener
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/29/10) – The Colgate
women’s ice hockey team suffered its first ECAC Hockey loss
of the season when it fell to Princeton 2-0 on Friday night. The
Raiders now have an overall record of 2-5 and a 0-1 conference
mark.
Despite starting the game even with neither team managing to put
the puck in the net in the first 20 minutes of play, it was
Princeton that got on the board first at the 6:23 mark of the
second frame with the help of Sally Buffer, to take the lead. The
Tigers then found a second goal eight minutes later when Deanna
Laing beat junior goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst,
N.Y) to put the score at 2-0 going into the final
period.
The Raiders continued to search for a late goal in the third
period to keep them in the game. However, even with a flurry of
close attempts in the final minutes, the team could not get past
Princeton's defense, who made a series of saves and defensive plays
to give Colgate its first league setback of the season.
Sass recorded 24 saves in the game, 15 of which were in the first
period. She now has a 2-2 record.
The Raiders will continue their road weekend with another conference matchup against Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
