RPI Skates to Draw at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore netminder Shannon Ramelot stopped 25 shots to help the Rensselaer women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie against Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.  With the draw, the Engineers are now 5-7-5, while the Orange move to 6-6-2 on the season.  The draw for RPI is one shy of the program's all-time mark (6), which was set last season.

The Engineers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period as junior assistant captain Alisa Harrison tallied at 14:27 off a feed from sophomore Taylor Horton.  Rookie Jordan Smelker was credited with the secondary assist on the play.

RPI gained the two-goal advantage at 16:56 after senior captain Kendra Dunlop notched an unassisted goal.

Heading into the second stanza, the Orange fought their way back as Julie Rising scored just 1:22 into the period.  Ashley Cockell then pulled things even for good with a tally at 11:03.

In goal for Syracuse, Jenesica Drinkwater stopped 27 shots.

Rensselaer is back on the ice next weekend in a home-and-home series against area- and league-rival Union.  The Engineers visit Schenectady on Friday (7pm) and host the Dutchwomen on Saturday at the Houston Field House (4pm).
