Johnston Scores Three to Lead Big Red Over Niagara
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Rebecca Johnston scored three goals and added a
pair of assists to lead the Cornell women's hockey team to its
second straight 6-0 victory over Niagara on Saturday afternoon at
Lynah Rink. Brianne Jenner chipped in a pair of goals and two
assists in the win for the Big Red (10-1).
Chelsea Karpenko added a goal, while Jessica Campbell and Alyssa
Gagliardi both pitched in a pair of helpers on the night. Amanda
Young and Kendice Ogilvie both added an assist for Cornell, which
finished the night scoreless in three power-play chances.
Amanada Mazzotta got the start and made 10 saves in the first half
of the contest before coming to the bench in favor of freshman
Lauren Slebodnick, who made nine saves in her second straight night
of relief. Niagara goaltender Jenni Bauer got the start and allowed
four goals on 18 shots in the first period before coming to the
bench in favor of Sarah Moses, who allowed two goals on 29 shots.
Niagara (3-10-3) finished the night scoreless in three power-play
chances.
Cornell returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Syracuse for a
7 p.m. nonconference contest.
