Dartmouth Loses Exhibition to McGill
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team hosted McGill in an exhibition contest on Friday at Thompson Arena. The Martlets scored a late-game goal to win the contest, 3-2. Junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) showed she's prepped for a strong season, scoring both the Big Green goals.
Hobeika scored the opening goal of the contest with three minutes to go in the first period. She scored off a rebound from Geneva Kliman (Toronto, Ont.). In the second period, McGill tied the contest on a score from Cathy Chartrand. Chartrand ripped a slap shot from the blueline past goaltender Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.). The two teams entered the second intermission tied at one.
In the third period, the Martlets scored in the first minute on an unassisted goal by Leslie Oles. Hobeika scored the equalizer with just under nine minutes remaining in the game on a power play. She skated through the defense to score the unassisted goal. It appeared the two teams were headed for overtime when McGill's Katia Clement-Heydra scored the game-winning goal with 1:20 left in the contest. Dartmouth pulled its goalie to try and win the game, but couldn't find the goal it needed.
The Big Green used two goalies in the exhibition. Woodcox played just over 30 minutes, recording six saves and allowing one goal. Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) played the other 30 minutes, allowing two goals and making eight saves.
Dartmouth put 26 shots on goal in the game compared to McGill's 17. The Big Green committed five penalties to the Martlet's four. Dartmouth opens the regular season on October 29 against Brown at 5 p.m. at Leede Arena.
