Jenner's Power-Play Marker Lifts Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Brianne Jenner scored the game's only goal
midway through the third period to lift the Cornell women's hockey
team to a 1-0 win over Princeton on Friday afternoon at Lynah Rink.
Cornell improved to 7-1 on the year and 5-0 in ECAC Hockey action,
while the Tigers dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league
play.
Laura Fortino and Rebecca Johnston picked up assists on the night,
while Amanda Mazzotta stopped all 15 shots she faced for her second
shutout of the year. For Princeton, Rachel Weber made 30 saves,
with 10 coming in each of the three periods, to take the loss.
Cornell finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play while holding
Princeton scoreless in five power-play chances.
With the Big Red playing its first game in 13 days, Cornell took a
little time to get back into the flow of the season. The two teams
battled through two scoreless periods before Jenner's power-play
game-winner, taking a feed across the top of the crease from
Fortino, standing wide open at the corner of the crease, easily
slipping the puck into the side of the net vacated by
Weber.
That would be all that the Big Red needed, as Mazzotta stopped six
shots in the first, four in the second and five in the third period
for her 14th career shutout.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to
Quinnipiac in a 3 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
