Raiders Fall to Quinnipiac in Conference Play
HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/19/10) – The Colgate
women’s ice hockey team dropped its fourth ECAC Hockey game
of the season with a 4-0 setback to Quinnipiac on Friday
afternoon.
Both teams came out looking to get on the board first, but neither
one was able to find the net despite some close attempts on both
ends. By the end of a scoreless first 20 minutes of play, it was
Colgate (4-9, 1-4 ECAC) that was the more productive of the two,
having a slight advantage in its number of shots, 10-9.
The Raiders came off to a shaky start in the second frame, but
soon found their offensive rhythm once again, creating some
threatening opportunities in front of Quinnipiac’s net.
However, it was the Bobcats that found success in the last few
minutes of the period, netting two quick goals at the 2:25 and 2:41
marks to give them the 2-0 lead. The first was a power play goal
from Jordan Elkins and the second was off a rebound that was
knocked in by Amanda Colin.
Quinnipiac then went on to score twice more in the third period,
with another power play goal at the 4:39 mark by Regan Boulton
followed by Colin’s second goal of the game at the 10:13
mark, to give the Bobcats the 4-0 win.
Junior Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 28 saves for the
Raiders while Quinnipiac’s Victoria Vigilanti had 27.
Colgate will continue ECAC play with a matchup against Princeton
tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Starr Rink.
