PRINCETON (12/11/10) - Paula Romanchuk scored twice and Rachel Weber made 14 saves to lead the Princeton women's hockey team to a 5-0 win over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Sasha Sherry opened the scoring for Princeton on the power play midway through the first period when her point shot beat Syracuse goaltender Kalle Billadeau for her second goal of the season. Corey Stearns carried the puck into the zone and dropped it to Laura Martindale, who set up Sherry's one-time blast.
Princeton made it 2-0 in the second period when Paula Romanchuk scored her fifth goal of the season on the rebound of a shot from Gabie Figueroa. Danielle Dicesare earned an assist as she fed Figueroa along the blue line.
Princeton added three goals in the final period to secure the win. Sally Butler put in a loose puck 1:46 into the period for her sixth goal after Sherry had a chance stopped by Billadeau.
Olivia Mucha made the score 4-0 at 10:14 of the period when she collected a turnover and scored on the backhand. Romanchuk sealed the win with her second of the game and sixth of the year at 17:12 on a rebound with assists from Rose Alleva and Figueroa.
Princeton outshot Syracuse 27-14 in the win. Weber stopped all 14 shots she faced for her second shutout in her last three starts, while Billadeau made 22 in the loss.
Princeton is now 6-10-1 overall and returns to action on Dec. 31 when it hosts Boston College.
