Raiders Drop Showdown with BC
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate suffered its
first setback of its 2010-11 campaign on Friday night when it lost
4-0 to No. 9 Boston College at Starr Rink. Senior goaltender Lisa
Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) played all 60 minutes and had 31
saves.
The Eagles came out strong in the first period, outshooting the
Raiders who were struggling to find their rhythm against their
nationally ranked opponent. As time progressed, the game began to
even out with both teams creating some opportunities in front of
the net. However, it was Boston College that found success first in
the 16th minute, scoring its first goal and taking the 1-0 lead
going into the first intermission.
In the second period, it was Colgate that came out more
aggressively, firing a flurry of shots at the Eagles’
goaltender but to no avail. The Raiders outshot the Eagles 11-5 but
were unable to score, entering the third period down a goal.
Colgate continued to play strong in the third period but were
unable to hold off the Eagles who powered past the Raiders, scoring
their second goal seven minutes into the period and then two more
in the closing minutes of the game to give Colgate its first loss
of the season.
The Raiders will resume play on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. when
they host No. 8 New Hampshire at Starr Rink in Hamilton, N.Y.
