Raiders Downed by Dartmouth
HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/5/10)
– The Colgate women’s ice hockey team suffered a 6-2
setback to Dartmouth on Friday night, in its third ECAC Hockey game
of the season. The Raiders finished 2-for-5 on the power play.
Colgate (3-6, 1-2 ECAC) started the game at a disadvantage,
conceding an early goal from Sasha Nanji in the first 13 seconds of
the game to trail the Big Green 1-0. The Raiders answered back
minutes later at the 5:47 mark when sophomore Brittany
Philips (Lauder, Man.) used her speed to beat her
defender, skate around the goal and pass the puck up to senior
Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.). Waters then
tipped it to freshman Rachel Walsh (Calgary,
Alta.) who hammered it home, to even the score at 1-1.
In the second period, Dartmouth scored three consecutive goals to
build a 4-1 lead. The first came from Amanda Trunzo who picked up a
loose puck, skated down the middle of the ice and beat senior
Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.). Erica Dobos added
the second goal two minutes later when she hooked up on a nice
tic-tac-goal with Jenna Hobeika and Katie Horner to net the Big
Green’s second goal of the period. The third came on a
wrister by Reagan Fischer.
Colgate stopped Dartmouth’s streak of three goals at the
18:58 mark of the second frame when junior Amanda Kirwan
(Mississauga, Ont.) connected with sophomore
Jordan Brickner (Lake Forest, Ill.) who fired the
puck into the net, to put the score at 4-2. Senior Jacquie
Colborne (Calgary, Alta.) was also credited with an
assist.
Dartmouth (3-0, 3-0 ECAC) then went on to score two more goals in
the final 20 minutes of play to give the Big Green its third
consecutive win of the season.
Plenderleith made 24 saves for Colgate, while Lindsay Holdcroft
had 17 for the Big Green.
The Raiders will resume play tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they host
No.10 Harvard in their final game of the weekend in Starr Rink.
