Princeton Blanks Brown
PRINCETON (12/4/10) - Olivia Mucha scored two goals and Rachel Weber made 19 saves to help lead the Princeton women's hockey team to a 4-0 shutout of Brown on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton controlled play from the start and scored the game's first goal at 4:01 of the first period, just seconds after a Brown penalty expired as Laura Martindale took a point shot that Danielle DiCesare redirected for her first goal of the season.
The Tigers cashed in on the power play late in the second period to go ahead 2-0. Paula Romanchuk found the puck alone in front and slid it over the line after a feed from Heather Landry across the crease and a blocked point shot from Sasha Sherry.
Princeton added two goals in the third period, both off the stick of Mucha as she extended her scoring streak to three games. She made it 3-0 when she roofed a Sally Butler pass and then added a shorthanded goal from the Brown blue line that fooled Brown goaltender Aubree Moore. Charissa Stadnyk added assists on Princeton's first and third goals.
The Tigers outshot Brown 42-19 in the win and converted on one of six power-play chances, while killing off the four Brown chances.
Weber stopped all 19 shots she faced, including 13 in the final frame, while her counterpart made 38 stops in the Brown cage.
Princeton's win snapped a seven-game winless skid and moved the Tigers to 4-10-1 overall and 4-6-1 in ECAC Hockey. Princeton is back in action with a two-game series against Syracuse next weekend at home.
